Is this course suitable for managers?
Yes. It's not a technical course. It's a course about the theory and practice of generating business value from working with users in practical ways. It covers working with users and working with business stakeholders to understand real requirements, and sketching to innovate new solutions. We'll cover techniques that help you stay user-focused, like cool walls, personas, scenarios and usability testing.
Product managers, developers and dev managers, BAs, copy writers, marketing managers... they would all be comfortable attending. You could even think about sending the COO, but give us some warning.
Does the course cover my speicifc area of interaction design? Eg. web apps/ websites/ mobile apps/ desktop software
User-centred design is a methodology you can apply to designing absolutely anything, whether it's a washing machine or a website. So the approach will work on whatever you're doing. But there are specific interaction design patterns that are relevant to different types of interface. We'll spend a bit of day 2 touching on those patterns, and we'll try to select the best ones for the particular mix of attendees.
Our aim is to equip you with the theoretical background of what UCD is, as well as practical skills that you can take back and apply in any work environment where stuff is designed - whether you are the designer or the decision maker.
Is there official accreditation?
The course comes with no accreditation, alas.
There is no recognised international or national usability
certification scheme. And Flow is not affiliated with any formal
educational bodies such as UCT or CAPUT.
We're just very experienced at user-centred design and have trained a fair few organisations in our time, including the BBC, British Telecom and Nokia.
